Hooray! You are now able to switch yourself over to our new job page. We’re making it easier to plan, track and price, with new visualisations and a more compact view. You're now able to do, and see, some neat new things like duplicate items (and even entire phases), see your upcoming dates on a job, and see your team on the job at a glance. Watch a quick video here with more information.
As part of this redesign, we’ve simplified the pricing methods on items. Our previous design was supporting a type of pricing that wasn’t entirely clear, and instead of retaining unnecessary complexity, we’re adjusting this behaviour.
Previously, if you didn’t enter an item rate, Streamtime would use the assigned team member rates for when you both plan and log time. From the release, any item that has no item rate specified, will calculate the planned time as $0.
🤷🏻♀️ Why are you making this change?
From our research in redesigning the job page, we’ve found that the vast majority of users use one of three core pricing methods. Those using the scenario of a blank item rate were not necessarily using it on purpose. We’ve also had reports in the past where customers weren’t expecting the outcomes they were getting, due to imperfect UX. Removing confusion should be the goal of any product, and while it’s difficult to enact change, sometimes it’s required.
🙋♀️ Will you still support the logging of different rates if my team member rate changes?
Yes. The way time is logged on items is unaffected. On an item with a blank item rate, time will log at the team member’s sell rate at that point in time, linked to their role or profile. Team member time logged to fixed price items without planned time will also log in the same way.
🤦🏼♂️ I didn’t realise my items were logging at different rates! I would like to change all the used and planned time on items to one rate for each team member. How do I do this?
If you’re on the current job page, you can do this by clicking into the team member rate cells to lock in the current sell rates. You can also override the rate here and update your used and planned time at once:
If you’ve switched to the new page, simply click on the pricing indicator, then change it to Price by person. All your logged time on that item will update to the rate set, and team members will continue to log at that rate.
💁🏽♂️ I want to edit the hours on an item that has a blank item rate, but I can see there's a planned total. How do I know whether an item will be affected by this change? I don’t want it to zero out.
Items previously priced this way will retain their planned values (as we don't meddle with your numbers!), but they will zero out if they're edited. These items make up a very percentage of all items — we're talking less than 1% of all items in existence. Items with a legacy saved planned value will appear like this in the original job page. Note the grey colour of the team member rates. If your team member rates are black, without a link icon, you're fine to tinker away.
And like this in the new job page. The item rate is blank, the pricing method is item rate (shown by the icon), and there is a planned total ($6,500).
If you need to retain the historical logged rates on that item, then we don't advise editing the item. Create a new item with the new rates, and track time onto the new item.
If you are happy to change all the planned and logged time to current team member rates, simply change the pricing method to Price by person using the method described in the previous question.
🧑🏽💼 I want to continue to log time at different rates if my rates change. How do I do this?
Fixed price items with no planned time, or an item priced by a blank item rate will continue to log at a team member's sell rate at different points in time, linked to the role or the team member profile.
